Ready to go back in time? Star Hill is a re-creation of a Texas Hill Country hamlet from the early 1900s. All of the structures were taken from all over Texas and meticulously rebuilt. The historic Pontotoc Chapel, which has hosted hundreds of public prayer services and weddings since it was built there in 2004, is at the heart of Star Hill.
It began as a childhood ambition of owner/founder Adam Woolley and was inspired by his visits to the early German community of Industry, Texas, which is located near Brenham. It’s the culmination of years of planning, restoration, and learning that continues to be a storage for historic buildings. In essence, it provides an opportunity to pay homage to our history while also providing a plethora of fantastic new experiences and memories.
Adam and Matt Woolley are brothers, Austin natives, and fifth-generation Texans. Adam is an Architectural Engineering student at the University of Texas at Austin who worked for Exxon and Trammel-Crow for about 10 years before launching Star Hill Ranch. Matt spent over 20 years working in corporate America in operations, sales, and marketing before joining Adam at Star Hill in 2014. They both have a passion for history and make it evident!
22 historic buildings now call the area home, including several other basic structures that were moved from around central Texas. They were all built between 1850 and 1935. The churches and adjacent event areas have been meticulously restored to current building standards.
In early 2008, Adam Woolley partnered with legendary house mover H.D. Snow to move the historic Spillman-Guinn Homestead from its original location over to an area adjacent to Star Hill for restoration as a family home. For ten weeks, National Geographic documented this project for their “Monster Moves” television series.
The venue buildings are arrayed along our Main Street/Plaza, which is beautifully lit with overhead carnival lighting and uplighting into the landscaping and exterior of the properties. The Main Street/Plaza is ideal for outdoor weddings and parties, dinner gatherings, cocktail hours, games, dancing, and more tented events!
